AML refers to the laws, regulations, and internal broker procedures designed to prevent trading accounts from being used to disguise the origin of illegally obtained funds. Regulated brokers must monitor transactions for suspicious patterns, verify the source of large deposits, and report anything unusual to the relevant financial authorities. AML compliance is one of the clearest practical differences between a properly regulated broker and an unregulated one, since offshore or unlicensed operators typically have little to no enforced AML process.
